[ARCHIVED] Beech & Maple Streets Improvement Project

NF Beech and Maple St

From February 26th, we’re starting works on infrastructure improvements along Beech Street and Maple Street. There will be closures over the coming weeks.

Project details

This construction work will carry out essential improvements to the stormwater and sewer infrastructure; ensuring reliability and efficiency for our residents. While we anticipate the project to be completed within approximately three (3) months, various factors such as weather conditions may impact the construction schedule.

The project encompasses several key components:

Sanitary Sewer:

  • Replacing sewer mains in the public right-of-way to address flat slopes and areas of pipe degradation.
  • Adjusting sewer laterals to accommodate changes in the piping network. All adjustments to private sewer laterals will be undertaken by the Township at no cost to residents.

Stormwater Conveyance:

  • Replacing corrugated metal stormwater piping with new HDPE storm sewer piping.
  • Road curbing adjustments to accommodate the new piping material, resulting in some stormwater conveyance improvements.

Road Improvements:

  • Replacing concrete curbing in areas of proposed utility work.
  • Repaving Beech Street and Maple Street upon completion of the project, including areas outside of the storm and sanitary work zones.

Road closures

During the construction period, intermittent lane closures and road closures for through traffic will be necessary due to the depths of the piping networks.

Residents will have continued access to their properties, albeit potentially needing to enter from the opposite end of the project. At times, on-street parking for residents may be necessary during the construction for safety reasons.

Emergency services, including police, ambulance, and fire services, will maintain access to all properties throughout the project duration.

School buses

The school bus pick-up and drop-offs for the Downingtown Area School District (DASD) will be impacted by the construction.

The school district is coordinating with affected residents to minimize disruptions to transportation services for students. Temporary stops will be in place at the intersections of Maple Street and Peck Road, and Beech Street and Norwood Road.
