1. How do I get a building permit?

Before a permit for any project can be submitted, all contractors working on the project must be registered to work in Uwchlan Township. All forms required for building permits are available at the Administration Building. Please call 610-363-9450 and ask for the Building Department with any specific questions regarding permitting.

For projects that require plot plans, you may request a plot plan, marked for setbacks according to your project from the Building Department. Please allow 5 -7 days for plot plans to be located and marked for proper setbacks.

1. Who do I call for help with raccoons / foxes / ground hogs?

Although the township does not provide animal control, we have the names of 2 companies that will help homeowners deal with control and removal of most wildlife animal conflicts. You can contact Tom Spadano of Erlich at 610-431-7648 or Mark Thurston of Wildlife Associates at 610-608-1961.

Once contacted, these companies will assess the problem, provide quotes for removal / control and capture/remove the animal, all at the expense of the homeowner. They do not handle dead deer problems. If you have a dead deer, contact the PA Game Commission at 610-926-3136.

3. What do I do with old paint?

The trash hauler will not take cans of wet paint. Latex paint is not a hazardous waste which means it can be put out with your regular trash after it has been solidified.  This can be accomplished by simply removing the lid and allowing it to harden, mixing it with sawdust, kitty litter or rags. Do not replace the lid so the hauler knows all liquid has been absorbed.

4. What do I do with old refrigerators?

Please call a certified freon remover to have freon drained prior to disposal. Visit the Chester County Solid Waste website for additional information. After the freon is removed and a sticker placed on the refrigerator, you may place it curbside for pickup. Make sure all doors are removed for safety.

5. How do I dispose of medication?

Collection boxes for disposal of medications are set up at the county Justice Center and the Police Department buildings that serve East Brandywine, Kennett Square, New Garden, North Coventry, Parkesburg, Phoenixville, West Goshen, West Whiteland, Westtown, and East Goshen.

3. May I attend a township meeting?

Absolutely, all scheduled and publicly advertised township meetings are always open to the public. See a schedule of meetings on our website. 4. What school district is Uwchlan Township in?

6. Is there fluoride in the water supply?

You need to call Aqua Pennsylvania at 610-525-1400 for information on your drinking water supply.

7. I’m selling my property without a realtor, what do I need to do?

You will need to schedule a Use and Occupancy Inspection ($100) with a Township Inspector via phone at 610-363-9450. You will also need sewer ($15) and/or trash ($15) certifications, which are essentially a final bill that must be paid at the settlement table. 8. How do I purchase a dog license?

Visit Chester County online and click on Services, then click on Dog License. You may also call 610-344-6000 for information.

1. What do I do if I am in a car accident?

Contact 911 or 610-692-5100 at the time of the accident and a police officer will come out to the scene to investigate it.

1. How are we billed for sewer and trash?

You are billed quarterly in arrears for sewer and/or trash services. One bill is now mailed out by March 31 with four payment tickets, one to be paid at the end of each quarter. New residents are mailed pro-rated bills based on their settlement date. Please call our office at 610-363-9450 with any question specific to your account.

2. When can I put out bulk items for trash pickup?

Each resident is permitted one bulk item per week. A bulk item could be a sofa, a chair, mattress and box spring, push lawn mower, one room’s worth of carpeting, or appliances. Appliances containing Freon will be collected by appointment only. Please call Eagle Disposal at 717-355-9560 to schedule collection. The Chester County landfill will be charging $25 per item for disposal of mattresses and/or box springs placed for curbside collection. That charge will be on your trash bill. If you place both a mattress and box spring curbside, the charge will be $50. We strongly encourage people to have the company that sells them a new mattress and box spring take their old one. These companies are usually set up to recycle these. Mattresses are difficult to dispose of in the landfill. They take up a lot of space and are not very compressible. *PLEASE call to schedule a pickup 610-363-9450.

3. Where do I get a new recycling bin?

New low rectangular recycling containers are available for $10 each at the township building. 715 North Ship Rd Exton, PA 19341. You can also purchase any recycling container you wish at Home Depot/Lowes/Hardware Store. The container just needs to be clearly marked that it is for recycles.

If you want cardboard boxes taken as recycling, flatten all boxes and place along side of your recycling bins. Boxes filled with trash or other items, such as leaves, will not be recycled. If your boxes are very large, you may have to cut them down to a more manageable size.
